Houses for Rent in NonthaburiNonthaburi is a suburban Bangkok province starting only about 15 minutes down the elevated expressway from the city center. Nonthaburi straddles the Chao Phraya River. Most houses for rent in Nonthaburi which are to expat specifications are only about 20 to 30 minutes from the central business district expressway ramps, though it can stretch to about an hour during rush hour. The Chaeng Wattana Road area, also spelled Jaeng Wattana, is the most popular region. It is common for foreigners to search for houses for rent near the International School of Bangkok (ISB) in the Nichada Thani compound in Pakkred off of Samakee Road. Nichada Thani has a lot of embassy people and expat executives, and driving thru the gate is like driving thru the Twilight Zone into suburban California. The International School of Bangkok is about 80% foreign students, with a student population of over 2000. If you want to see a list of sample houses inside Nichada Thani, each with photos inside and out, then please contact us. Most government offices are in Nonthaburi. Historically, Thailand's capital developed along this river. The population density is higher and the age of places older in the part of Nonthaburi closest to Bangkok, but Nonthaburi becomes much newer and spread out as you go a few minutes further down the expressway. We split Nonthaburi into two main regions -- on the west side of the river (Bangkok side) and on the east side (Thonburi). Expats are generally interested in only the east side, because traffic jams at the bridge choke points along the river. West of the river it's much greener and more spread out, and there are some nice housing estates out there, but the people who choose that area are generally working in industrial areas west of Bangkok. The vast majority of the modern houses and housing estates are located on the east side (same side as Bangkok). Also off Chaeng Wattana Road are several small housing villages with much more economical houses having large yards, some with swimming pools, and modern insides, but you are generally in neighborhoods mixed with high class Thais. Of notable interest is Muang Thong Thani (MTT), particular the side of MTT west of the expressway where the neighborhoods are. Internet is very good out here, and in fact Thailand's international links come in at a big switch here near the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), all located on Chaeng Wattana Rd., along with some major ISPs. (Our main office is also located here, as our Sukhumvit office is just a branch office for agents.) Further in towards Bangkok is Ngam Wong Wan Rd. which changes name to Rattana Tibet Rd. as it crosses the river, and there are some condominium riverfront properties in that area, as well as many trendy restaurants and lots of modern superstores, but the population density is higher and traffic congestion sometimes reminds you of the Bangkok central business district. Ngam Wong Wan Rd. is one exit before the Chaeng Wattana Rd. expressway exit, but these two exits are far apart. Modern shopping malls, trendy restaurants, and all the modern conveniences abound all over Nonthaburi. Many expats who work in industrial estates to the north such as in Pathum Thani and Ayutthaya will often choose to live in Nonthaburi or Pathum Thani, as the expressway goes all the way to Ayutthaya. The environment of Nonthaburi is residential, not industrial. The Thailand Guru website covers houses for rent in Nonthaburi and includes good maps for orientation.
